Description

Alejandro Mora: Inherited composure, learned courage

Date of birth: 2 July 1996
Place of birth: Plasencia (Cáceres, Spain)
Alternativa: 3 September 2023, Bayonne (France)
Confirmation: 13 April 2025, Madrid (Las Ventas)

A vocation written in his blood

The calling of the bull came to Alejandro Mora early, almost without him seeking it. He grew up surrounded by talk of bullfighting, absorbing the values of the bullring from a young age. And with good reason—he is the nephew of the celebrated matador Juan Mora, known for his classic style and pure technique. Alejandro’s passion was shaped through long hours at the bull ranch and afternoons spent watching bullfights, admiring his uncle and dreaming of one day wearing the traje de luces.

Training and early steps

Determined to pursue a life in bullfighting, Alejandro enrolled at the Salamanca Bullfighting School, one of the most prestigious institutions in Spain. There, he refined his style: serene, composed, and deeply personal—an inheritance from his bullfighting lineage. He made his debut with picadores on 28 July 2018 in Garlin, France, where he made a powerful impression by cutting three ears from bulls of El Tajo and La Reina. From that moment on, his name began circulating with promise among the ranks of young novilleros.

The novillero years

As a novillero, Mora displayed flashes of brilliance in key arenas such as Las Ventas, where he performed three times and was awarded two laps of honour after sincere and compelling performances. He also stood out in tournaments such as the Madrid Regional Novillada Circuit, narrowly missing a place in the final, and was a prominent participant in the 2023 edition of the Copa Chenel. In Valdilecha, he earned two warm ovations after facing bulls from Salvador Gavira and Javier Gallego, advancing to the next round. He continued to impress in Algete, where he completed a lap of honour after an emotional showing with bulls from Monte La Ermita and Los Eulogios.

The alternativa in France

His big day arrived on 3 September 2023 in the French city of Bayonne, a town with deep bullfighting roots. He took the alternativa with Manuel Escribano as his sponsor and Emilio de Justo as witness. Alejandro rose to the occasion, cutting both ears from the sixth bull of the afternoon—a Zacarías Moreno bull—making his debut as a full matador a memorable triumph.

Confirmation at Las Ventas and his current season

The 2024 season saw Alejandro continue to establish himself professionally, taking part in three bullfights and cutting one ear. He returned to Bayonne for the prestigious Goyesque "corrida azul", sharing the bill with Alejandro Talavante and Daniel Luque to fight bulls from Garcigrande. He cut an ear from his first bull and was warmly applauded after his second. April 2025 brought one of the most significant moments of his career: the confirmation of his alternativa at Las Ventas, an essential milestone in securing his place among the top names in the bullfighting world.

Best performance and personal style

One of Alejandro’s most unforgettable performances came during his alternativa in Bayonne, where he displayed exceptional poise, timing, and classic technique, finishing with a textbook estocada that earned him both ears. He is a traditional torero, known for his elegant natural passes and unhurried rhythm, leaving a lasting impression through his serious, measured and fully committed demeanour.
