On March15th, 2025, a bullfighting event will be held at the Plaza de Toros in Valencia with bulls from Victoriano del Rio / Toros de Cortés. Alejandro Chicharro, who will take his Alternative (official promotion to full matador).

Fallas Bullfighting Fair, fifth festival of the season's events
Saturday, 15th March – 5:00 PM | Bullfight. Bulls from Victoriano del Río / Toros de Cortés for Alejandro Talavante, Andrés Roca Rey, and Alejandro Chicharro, who will take his Alternative.
What does the Alternativa involve?
In bullfighting terms, taking the "Alternativa" is the ceremony in which a novillero (young bullfighter) is officially promoted to the rank of matador de toros, becoming a full-fledged professional bullfighter. The ceremony takes place during a bullfight where the novillero performs alongside two experienced matadors. One of them, known as the "padrino" (godfather of the Alternativa), symbolically hands over the muleta (red cape) and estoque (sword), marking the novillero's transition to the highest level of bullfighting. The other matador, called the "testigo" (witness), takes part in the event to confirm the promotion.
Once the Alternativa is taken, the new matador is allowed to fight fully grown bulls over four years old, rather than the younger bulls (novillos) used in training.
Confirmation of the Alternativa
In prestigious bullrings such as Las Ventas in Madrid or La México in Mexico City, matadors who have taken the Alternativa elsewhere must confirm it by repeating the ceremony in a specially designated bullfight.
Taking the Alternativa is a major milestone in a bullfighter’s career, marking their entry into the most demanding professional circuit of the sport.

To access the bullring in Valencia on March 15tg, it is mandatory to bring your printed paper bullfighting tickets, if you don't bring them printed you may not be allowed to enter.
