From an early age, Julio developed a deep interest in tauromaquia (bullfighting). Although his family had no direct links to this art form, they supported his journey, encouraging his growth in this challenging discipline.
While living in Cáceres, Julio began his training at the Escuela Taurina de la Diputación de Badajoz (Badajoz Bullfighting School), where he attended regularly to refine his technique. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, he stood out as one of the most promising students.

Julio Méndez's name is increasingly prominent in the world of tauromaquia, and his participation in the Circuito de Madrid 2025 is eagerly anticipated by critics and fans alike. His dedication and talent position him as a key figure in the future of bullfighting.
Saturday, 22 February 2025. Young Extremaduran bullfighter Julio Méndez has generated great anticipation following his spectacular debut with picadors in Mérida, where he cut four ears and two tails. With an impressive record in 2024—leading the ranking of non-picador novilleros and winning prestigious trophies—his participation in the Madrid Community Novilladas Circuit is one of the most eagerly awaited highlights of the competition. The Madrid afición is keenly awaiting his performance this Sunday, where he will face bulls from Antonio Sánchez and El Retamar alongside Mexican novillero Jairo López.
This event, organised by the Fundación Toro de Lidia and the Community of Madrid, will tour nine municipalities and bring together eight promising young bullfighters competing for glory. Méndez’s inclusion, made possible through an agreement with the José Cubero "Yiyo" Bullfighting School, adds further appeal to the circuit and reinforces the commitment to supporting the next generation of toreros. With 18 Madrid-based livestock breeders involved, the competition not only serves as a platform for emerging talent but also highlights the rich cattle-breeding tradition of the region.
