Mario Vilau had undoubtedly his best season in 2023: he was awarded the 2023 Research Award for Bullfighting Studies, organized by the Federació d'Entitats Taurines de Cataluña, the Agrupación Española de Ganaderos de Reses Bravas and the Fundación del Toro de Lidia.

He was the best student of the Bullfighting School of Cataluña by number of performances, wins and progression shown. The bullfighter from l'Hospitalet de Llobregat began the season in April and finished it at the end of October, cutting two ears in Jaén, totaling 19 bullfights, 28 ears and one tail.
His bullfighting is varied both with the cape and with the muleta, he likes to fight long and low, with a very powerful and tempered muletazo.
