What is a Rejones bullfight ?

A corrida de rejones is a bullfighting event where the bullfighters, known as rejoneadores, fight the bull on horseback, using short spears called rejones instead of the traditional sword and cape. This is a highly visual and dynamic form of bullfighting, where skilled horsemanship blends with the excitement of the fight.

Differences from a Traditional Bullfight

The role of the horse: In rejoneo, the horse is just as important as the bullfighter. These are specially trained animals, capable of dodging the bull’s charges with incredible agility and precision.
The technique: Instead of using capes and muletas, the rejoneador employs a sequence of weapons on horseback, starting with the rejón de castigo (to test the bull’s bravery), followed by the banderillas, and finishing with the rejón de muerte.
The spectacle: While traditional bullfighting is known for its solemnity and artistic flourishes, rejoneo is more fast-paced, featuring spins, turns, and horses that appear to "dance" around the bull.

Which One to Choose?

If you love horsemanship and an action-packed display, a corrida de rejones is an excellent choice. If you prefer the pure tradition of man facing the bull on foot, then a classic bullfight is the way to go. Both offer intense emotions, each with its own unique style and essence.
