Pedro Rufo: The Rising Star of Bullfighting

Pedro Rufo Resino was born on 1 January 2003 in Pepino (Toledo), a town with a deep-rooted bullfighting tradition and the birthplace of his brother, matador Tomás Rufo. From an early age, Pedro was immersed in the world of bullfighting, growing up in an environment where the art of the cape was more than just a passion—it was a way of life.

His journey began at the Pepino Bullfighting School, where he took his first steps in the ring, developing a pure and committed style. He later refined his skills at the Toledo Bullfighting School, taking part in training sessions and practice fights that allowed him to mature as a torero.

After a period away from the ring, Pedro felt the call of the bulls once again. On 8 September 2022, in his hometown, he made his return to the arena, facing a yearling from El Tajo y La Reina. This moment was not just another fight—it was a statement of intent, a reaffirmation of his dedication to the profession.

His first appearance in lights came on 25 February 2023, in the "Kilómetro 0" competition at Vistalegre (Madrid)—a challenging venue where he proved he had both the ambition and the courage to carve out a future in bullfighting. A few months later, in May 2023, he delivered a performance to remember in Los Navalucillos (Toledo), cutting two ears and a tail in the III Domingo Ortega Competition, cementing his status as one of the rising talents of the novillero circuit.

Now, in 2024, Pedro Rufo is facing the most significant moment of his career so far: his debut with picadores in Toledo’s Plaza de Toros, where he will share the bill with Marco Pérez, taking on a Montealto bullfight. This event carries double significance—his first test against fully grown bulls and the honour of participating in a charity event, where bullfighting aligns with a noble cause.

Pedro Rufo’s journey is only just beginning, but his determination and his elegant interpretation of bullfighting mark him as one of the sport’s brightest hopes for the future.
