The great appointment of the Valladolid capital takes place in September, the Fair of Our Lady of San Lorenzo. The city turns day and night to celebrate its  patroness.

Its legend dates back to the eleventh century, when a priest arrived in Valladolid with an image of the Virgin protecting it from Muslims. A pastor would find it later on the banks of the Pisuerga river.

When is the Fair of Our Lady of San Lorenzo celebrated? 

It is celebrated around September 8, the feast of the Virgin of San Lorenzo, and lasts ten days. The Bullfighting Fair extends for six, so it usually occupies the second week of the month.

Casa Matilla, the company responsible for the Bullring, configures a season ticket full of figures and consists of four bullfighting shows that include three bullfights and one of horse-bullfight.

How is the Fair of Our Lady of San Lorenzo? 

The Virgin of San Lorenzo is a recent fair, it is celebrated since 2001. Previously the festivities of Valladolid coincided with San Mateo and the end of the harvest, at the end of September. However, the usual presence of rains motivated the change of date.

The celebrations begin with a proclamation and the ‘chupinazo’ (rocket launched), followed by a parade. Music plays a very important role, with great concerts throughout the city. Typical gastronomy, fireworks, its famous giants or breaking a Guinness record are some of the events that can not be missed.
