The 49th edition of the Zapato de Oro Fair in Arnedo, scheduled from 28th September to 2nd October 2024, will feature young bulls from the herds of Murteira Grave, Guadalmena, Los Maños, and Adolfo Martín, across four novilladas with picadors. The Portuguese herd Murteira Grave, which was the standout of the previous edition, will return to Arnedo to open this prestigious event.
This Monday, Arnedo’s Deputy Mayor, Rosa Herce, and bullfighting entrepreneur Ignacio Ríos, unveiled the details of the fair at a press conference. Among the participating novilleros are Fabio Jiménez and Alberto Donaire from La Rioja, who are set to stand out in what promises to be an intense and competitive series.
The fair will kick off on Saturday, 28th September, with young bulls from Murteira Grave, marking the herd’s return to Arnedo. The inaugural day will see novilleros Fabio Jiménez from Alfaro and Alberto Donaire from Calahorra share the bill. On Sunday, 29th September, the young bulls from Guadalmena will take centre stage in the second novillada, featuring Cristiano Torres, Aarón Palacio, and Javier Zulueta. It is worth noting that there will be no bullfighting event on Monday, 30th September.
In October, on Tuesday, 1st October, the Aragonese herd Los Maños will make its debut at the fair, after having previously participated in a 2021 event organised by the Fundación Toro de Lidia. The cycle will conclude on Wednesday, 2nd October, with young bulls from Adolfo Martín, bringing the 49th Zapato de Oro to a close.
Ignacio Ríos highlighted that this 49th edition represents a "growing fair," with special attention given to every detail, from the design of the promotional poster to the selection of the line-ups. Ríos emphasised that the fair is a "commitment to new talent," also featuring top-ranking novilleros.
The line-up for the 2024 Zapato de Oro is as follows:
– 28th September: Young bulls from Murteira Grave for Fabio Jiménez, Manuel Román, and Alberto Donaire.
– 29th September: Young bulls from Guadalmena for Cristiano Torres, Aarón Palacio, and Javier Zulueta.
– 1st October: Young bulls from Los Maños for Sergio Sánchez, Mariscal Ruiz, and Emiliano Osornio.
– 2nd October: Young bulls from Adolfo Martín for Juan Herrero, Alejandro Chicharro, and Bruno Aloi.
